Pro-Isle 360
Bathtub Sunday
July 27, 2014

After your Pancake Breakfast provided by the Lions Club at Beacon House, and after the exciting start of the big Bathtub Race in Nanaimo, why not come down and register for our own Protection Island races? This is a free, fun, family event, open to all islanders, visiting relatives and friends.

Pro-Isle 360 is a human or wind powered race around Protection Island, starting at the beach at Gallows Point. The tide will be quite low with only a few inches of water in the Gap so be prepared to carry or tow your boat. Bring your kayak, canoe, rowboat, pedal boat, sailing dinghy, stand up paddle board, windsurfer, kite board, wetsuit, swimsuit or inner tube, and enjoy an afternoon on the waters around our beautiful island.

Pro-Isle 180 Gap and Back is a new race for those who don't want to portage or face the wind, weather, and waves on the outside. Maybe some of our younger residents could give this a try?

Free registration at 11:00 AM, Races begin at 2 (slight adjustment due to very low tide). Please note that lifejackets are required on all boats.

There are trophies for first overall, first rowboat, closest predicted time, best spirit (dress up yourself and/or your boat), and a new trophy for the shorter Gap and Back race. There are also random draws for gift certificates from locally owned restaurants. Beacon House will be open at 2:30 for thirsty paddlers, passengers and spectators, awards at 4:00.
